Creating Art Boxes with Jan Melville

Create your own art box using assemblage, collage and mixed media with Jan Melville

Jan Melville will guide us as we explore the captivating world of art boxes made famous by Joseph Cornell. Bring along your boxes, curiosities, found objects, collage materials and a sense of adventure!

Tickets: Early bird members $85 (pay by 16/02/24), members $100, non-members $125

We use the Humanitix ticketing platform to help us manage our workshops and classes. Humanitix charge a booking fee which we split with you 50/50. Humanitix is a registered charity and 100% of their profits go to social impact projects with a particular focus on closing the education gap.

Class size: 10 students

Please bring:

  • Boxes of your choice such as cardboard, wood, cigar or vintage boxes. Boxes can be found at $2 shops, Big W, second-hand shops and antiques shops (Mr Pickwicks in Katoomba is worth a look). Cigar boxes can be found at antique shops (often the Victory Theatre in Blackheath).

  • Magazine collage materials or old artworks on paper.

  • Found objects (bric a brac, curiosities collected from nature)

  • A large UHU glue stick, sharp scissors, nail scissors, tweezers for small pieces.

  • Lead pencil and drawing materials.

  • Paints and brushes.

  • Ruler (metal if you have one).

  • Disposable gloves and an old shirt or apron.

Materials that will be supplied:

  • Wood glue for found objects
